These words inaugurate Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy and his toilsome ascent from the fires and darkness of eternal damnation to the light and skies of permanent redemption. 

With the tripartite structure of Inferno, Purgatory and Paradise, and the sempiternal conflict between the seven deadly sins and the seven capital virtues, Dante's work plays with a numerical symbology in which 3 and 7 are deeply interwoven - 3 like the number of Oriel's quads, 7 like the 700 years of our history.
